What are fillers and How do they work?
The dermal fillers used at The White House Facial Aesthetics Clinic contain Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA is a natural component of our skin which decreases as we age resulting in a loss of volume & wrinkles to form in the skin. The treatment involves a consultation with Doctor Clark, who will check and advise the best possible treatment and areas that will need treated in order to achieve the desired results. Depending on the areas being treated will depend on which type of filler is best. For fine lines a thin filler is used, whereas lips require a medium bodied filler to give volume but not too thick to prevent unnatural lumps. Cheek fillers need to be fairly thick to give the desired support and structure. The thicker the filler the longer it lasts (6 months – 2 years)
Will getting fillers make me look like I have had work done?
Dermal fillers are a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not look “fake” when you are
treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy. It is important to talk to your specialist about the results you want from treatment. Some people want a more dramatic look while others prefer to look more natural, your clinician will adjust the volume & techniques to suit your requirements.
Does getting fillers hurt?
Some patients report that being injected with dermal fillers feels tender when the tissue expands however this is usually very mild. At the White House Facial Aesthetics Clinic we always use topical numbing cream prior to doing any injections (takes 30 min) and our products contain local anaesthetics to provide the most comfort to our patients.
What were common side effects seen in clinical studies?
Usually you can expect to feel discomfort or pain at the injection site; redness, bruising, swelling and a tightness/tenderness to the skin. This usually resolves within a few days. If you bruise easily then we would recommend taking Arnica supplements 3 days prior to and after treatment.
How long does the treatment take?
Your specialist will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the
appropriate treatments for you. The actual injection process takes about 10 – 20 minutes and
including consultation usually no more than 1 hour.
What is the average treatment cost?
Your cost not only includes the price of the product, but more importantly, the skill and expertise of the Dentist who is specially trained and experienced in administering your treatment. Dermal fillers are a technique-sensitive treatment. At the White House Facial Aesthetics Clinic our prices start at £200 for 0.5ml lip fillers. Depending on how thin your lips are or the volume lost in the face and how natural you want your results will depend on many ml of filer are required (most people need 1ml of lip fillers – £300, for very thin lips 3ml over 4 -6 months is usually required).
When will I see results?
You will notice results immediately however about 10 % of this will be swelling, so after 1 week,
once this resolves the overall results should be seen. Depending on the filler used your results
should last around 1 year.
How many injections will I receive?
This depends entirely on the area treated and the results we are aiming for. Lips are usually at
least 3 injections
How long is the recovery time after treatment?
After your treatment, you can resume your day. There is minimal downtime and your specialist
will give you specific aftercare instructions. Most swelling and redness will settle within 1 hour
any prolonged swelling and bruising will settle within a week (bruising can usually be masked
with dark lipstick and a good concealer).
Dermal Filler Information & Patient Consent
Juvederm Ultra is an injectable dermal filler consisting of a clear hyaluronic acid gel that is injected into facial tissues to smooth wrinkles and folds and plump the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that delivers nutrients, hydrates the skin, acts as a cushioning agent, and provides scaffolding to lift any folds. Dermal fillers may also be used to treat facial atrophy (loss of fat), for facial sculpting, and skin enhancement. Dermal filler injectable gels temporarily add volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face.
How long does a HA dermal filler last?
You should see an immediate improvement in the treated areas on the day. Depending on the area
treated results may last 6 months or more. Some of our products may last up to 18months.
What are the possible side effects?
Most side effects are mild or moderate and usually last less than 7 days. Persistence of these symptoms for up to two weeks is usually nothing to worry about. The most common side effects include temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. Other rare risks include, but are not limited to:
- Overcorrection/under correction & facial asymmetry
- Unpredictable persistence of filler, either shorter or longer than expected.
- Prolonged discolouration of the skin
- Prolonged or severe swelling
- Reactivation of cold sores
- Infection
- Scarring
- Ulceration
- Granulomas or firm nodules
- Benign tumour formation (keratoacanthomas)
- Allergic or anaphylactic reaction
- Blindness
A remote and extremely rare risk is that of filler injection into a blood vessel, leading to blockage of the vessel. This could result in reduced blood flow to an area of tissue, leading to tissue damage and tissue death (necrosis), which could be seen as skin breakdown, ulceration and scar formation. Blood vessel blockage near the eye can result in blindness.
Is there anyone that cannot be treated?
Dermal Fillers should not be used in patients who have severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis, a history of severe allergies, or patients with a history of a compromised immune
system. The doctor will ask you about your medical history to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for treatment.
What should I expect with HA dermal filler treatments?
The doctor will go over a list of pre and post treatment procedures with you. If you are taking
aspirin or ibuprofen you may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection site. HA
dermal fillers should be used with caution in patients on immunosuppressive therapy as there may
be an increased risk of infection, swelling and adverse events. The safety of dermal fillers has not
been established in breastfeeding females, during pregnancy, or in patients under the age of 18.
What are post treatment procedures?
For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. This minimizes the risk of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. These temporary side effects generally resolve
themselves within one week. An ice pack can be applied to the site if you experience swelling. You may apply make-up as usual after 24hours.
I hereby confirm that I understand the above and am happy to continue with treatment. I consent to pre and post treatment photography for medical record purposes. Please let the clinician know if you DO NOT consent to your photographs being used for teaching and marketing purposes. I confirm I have been fully informed about the risks and benefits of treatment and authorise
treatment following a full consultation.
